The Department of Homeland Security downplayed the cyber threat to the power grid in a late 2015 intelligence report. Three months later they launched a nationwide program with the FBI to warn of the dangers U.S. utilities face from damaging cyber-attacks as evidenced by the hacking of the Ukraine’s power grid.

In this part of the program Stephanie Cervantes will discuss the reality of cyber threats, hacking, hacktivism and why and who is creating the threats and who they are targeting along with re-thinking how to secure critical infrastructure and why being compliant does not mean you are secure. Frank Mastro will discuss the vulnerabilities in the typical network architecture of most utility companies and how to reduce the risks and find cost savings to put towards enhanced security.
